A gas cylinder exploded in apartment number 14 in Darkhan sum, Darkhan-Uul province on January 21.
The apartment has two entrances and the one where the explosion happened has been sealed.
36 families live near the entrance, which was sealed, and they were transferred to new accommodations on January 22.
The gas cylinder exploded in the home of a family who lives on the seventh floor. The explosion was strong enough to have broken the windows of their apartment.

Resident Kh.Baatartsogt who lives in the apartment complex said, “It was frightening. On the January 21, I was watching TV at 9.30 pm. Then suddenly I heard the sound of an explosion and furniture started collapsing, at first I thought it was earthquake. When I went outside with my children, every resident of our apartment was outside. Fortunately, no one died, but two people of the family where the gas cylinder exploded were hospitalized. Another one was injured.”
A doctor at the Trauma and Rehabilitation Hospital in Darkhan G.Erdene said, “Two women and one man who were injured due to the explosion were admitted to our hospital. They are in a critical condition and 40 percent of their bodies are burnt. They had to be moved to a hospital in Ulaanbaatar for treatment.”
Deputy Governor of the Province D.Batjargal said, “We met with residents and were explained the the situation. The investigation process has begun. After they finish investigating, a report will come out. Then we can take the next steps. Residents were transferred to the boarding house of Oyuni Undraa Tsogtsolbor School. After repairing the apartment, residents can safely re-enter the complex.”
The repairs are scheduled to be finished in 10 days.
