“There will be great Mongolian movie producers soon” |
|
By B.BYAMBADORJ
The following is an interview with G. Jigjidsuren, an honored Mongolian filmmaker, screenwriter, and director, who has made over 30 Mongolian classic and documentary films.
-Last Saturday the Mongolian Film Festival took place and chose the best films of the past year. Do you think the chosen films deserved to be credited as the best? -Was there such an event? I did not know, I missed it. -Are you that busy? -Well, I have things to do but not enough to keep me busy all the time. I currently work as a movie director and producer at the Mongolian National Broadcast. My office is on the rural side of the city, so usually there is no need for me to travel to the centre of the city. Today when I came here, I spent a lot of time stuck in traffic. -We heard that you were working as an advising director for Anu Khatan (Anu Queen film). How is it going so far? -Good young people are making this film. A movie is a novel not a play. It is very expensive to create a film; it is a very difficult game. Teams of experienced and specialized people are required. Every person involved with this movie: director, artist and producers – they are all from the Movie Productions University. So I have a firm belief that this film will be a very good one. Our operator D. Angarag is very skilled; I met him during the production of Dev (film). -Does their methods and way of doings things now differ from your days of making films? -Yes, it is very different. The film making methods used by the State Awarded B. Baljinnyam long ago are outdated today. Technology is a whole different matter too. Although other arts have histories of thousands of years, the reason that the 100 year old art of filmmaking is the most famous and successful out of them is that filmmaking is based on advancing technology.

J.Batsaikhan: Public officials will report on conflicts of property, income and interest |
|
By E.DARI
The following is an interview with J.Batsaikhan, the head of the Inspection and Analysis Department of the Independent Authority Against Corruption (IAAC). -By putting into effect the law on preventing conflicts of interest, the property and income report submission has to be carried out again. When and how will the report be submitted? The law on interest came into effect on May 1st. In compliance with the law public servants will re-fill in the new form on interest conflicts and property and income reports. The draft form was approved by the parliament and we intend to finish the form completion before the Naadam Festival (July 11th to 13th). It is estimated that the forms will be cumulated and completed by August 15th. -Does this mean that the official who originally reported the income will report it again? -Yes, they will re-report. 58 thousand public servants will refill in the interest conflict report form. To be clear, they will fill both the property and income report form and interest conflict form as well. -Will the candidates for the parliamentary election from the city and provinces fill in both forms? -The candidates for all levels of the election will fill in only the income and property report form. |

N.Tungalag: Mongolian Khans were the first to establish international astrological studies |
|
By B.KHASH-ERDENE
It is said that refuse in space has increased to a point where satellites and orbiting modules are in danger of being hit by them. At present there are around 17 thousand registered objects orbiting the earth’s atmosphere. Only a small number of them are operational and the rest have become space refuse. According to NASA, there are around 28 thousand space refuse objects of varying sizes from 10 centimetres square and up. The following is an interview with senior researcher and PhD of Nature Study N.Tungalag of Astrology and Geophysics Centre of Science Academy. She graduated from the University of Kharkov of Ukraine in 1989 and has since worked for the Astrology and Geophysics Centre. She specializes in physics and the behaviours of objects in the solar system and physical properties of objects orbiting in the atmosphere. N.Tungalag has calculated more than 30 small planet parameters, and placed them in the Asteroid Photometric Catalogue and the Asteroid Lightcureve Data file. Her work has been published several times in the foreign press.
-What are the results of space pollution? -When objects floating in space collide with satellite stations or probes, it can damage or destroy the orbits; making it difficult to work in space. Satellites and other space devices have direct influence on global commutation and other data transferring activities, so it can directly influence daily lives of many. Even an object as small as 0.1 cm can cause heavy damage to space devices. |

B. Enebish: The delaying of Tavan Tolgoi’s IPO is helping increase its value |
|
The following is an interview with the CEO of state-owned Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi LLC.
-With the elections coming up, how is the progress at Tavan Tolgoi (TT) during this time of political importance? -The company’s mining and extraction operations have calmed down. In 2011, we extracted one million tons of coal. Since the turning of 2012, we have again stockpiled one million tons of coal and are ready to transport them. Although our official estimation is to extract three million tons of coal this year, we believe that this number will expand to four million as our equipment and technologies are running relatively smoothly. With this intensity, our production will increase year by year . As for the USD 250 million owed to Chalco, the affair is being conducted on coal buying and selling contracts. -A number of times Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi stocks have almost been made available to the public. They were supposed to be out this spring. What is the reason for the delay? -The Mongolian Government decided that it was right to release Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi stocks to the public, and in 2011 preparation work commenced on this operation with the assistance of investment banks and foreign advisors. But currently, we have no choice but to postpone the IPO until March or April of 2013. I will be more specific here, the release of this IPO consist of four main factors: The first is that the company that is going public should have a clear investors’ structure. But this is not the case for us. The Government made a decision to let the Mongolian public own 20% of TT. This means that the ownership of stocks are blurry because we do not know who will decide to keep or trade their stocks, or whether the Government will offer stocks to other companies or will they keep stocks themselves. We planned to resolve this in 2011 but the problem is still persisting even now.
